    Rat year Day 9

Day 9: The ninth day of the New Year is a day to offer prayers to the Jade Emperor of Heaven.
This day is especially important to Hokkiens. At the stroke of midnight on the eighth day of the new year, Hokkiens will offer thanks to the Emperor of Heaven. Offerings include sugarcane as it was the sugarcane which had protected the Hokkiens from harm a long time ago. Tea is customarily served as respect to an honoured person.

hmm..i smell all the incense paper burning now. haha. was joking with sk in sch just now. since tis yr v day is so close to the 9th y don't give sugar cane instead of rose to the girls. haha. okok. it meant to be a joke. doesn't mean anything. so don't take it to heart.
